Clues to Identify Your Wood Single

First look for the serial number. If it has one it will be located on the starboard stern, just below the deck. Pocock started using serial numbers sometime in the mid 1970's, and it may hold clues to the year the boat was made. The order and meaning of the numbers and letters went through several changes over the years, and so it is not always possible to tell what year the boat was made from it.

Take a look at the keel. Does it have nails? How about the decks, are they taped or are there wood bedes?

  • If your keel is nailed and you have wood bedes, then you likely have a boat built by George Pocock, 1976 or earlier.
  • If there are no nails along the keel and your decks are taped, then you likely have a boat built by Stanley Pocock, 1976 - 1985.
  • If there are no nails along the keel and you have wood bedes, then you likely have a boat built by Bob Brunswick, post 1985. Also the last two digits in the serial number reflect the year it was built (This is not always the case for boats built prior to 1985.).
